Dr. Rajendra Nanavare Delivers Enlightening Lecture on Advanced Molecular Diagnostics for Tuberculosis at Maharashtra Institute of Medical Science & Technology Mumbai, 15th November 2024: Dr. Rajendra Nanavare, an eminent Chest Physician and expert in tuberculosis management, delivered an insightful guest lecture on “New Molecular Diagnostic Tests in Tuberculosis” at the Maharashtra Institute of Medical Science & Technology. The session, attended by students and faculty, focused on cutting-edge techniques critical in diagnosing and managing drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR and XDR TB), a significant step toward controlling and eliminating this global health threat. Dr. Nanavare elaborated on the latest molecular diagnostic tools, including GeneXpert, Line Probe Assays, and Whole Genome Sequencing, which enable rapid and precise detection of tuberculosis and drug-resistant strains. Highlighting their role in early diagnosis, effective treatment planning, and public health management, he emphasized that these technologies are pivotal in achieving India’s commitment to eliminating tuberculosis by 2025. The lecture provided a comprehensive understanding of how advancements in molecular diagnostics enhance the accuracy and speed of TB detection while aiding in curbing the spread of resistant strains. Dr. Nanavare also underscored the importance of integrating these diagnostic methods into routine TB control programs and the need for continuous research and capacity-building initiatives. The Principal of the institute, Dr. A.G. Mulla, expressed gratitude, stating, “Dr. Nanavare’s expertise and practical insights have greatly enriched our students and faculty. His lecture inspires us all to work towards the vision of a TB-free society.” This event reflects the institute’s commitment to bridging academic knowledge and practical applications, ensuring students are equipped to contribute to public health challenges effectively.
